WHAT IS BODHI?
BODHI, founded in 1989, is based in both the United States and Australia.
BODHI's Objectives
BODHI hopes to be a tree providing support to its branches and sustenance to those who gather beneath it, all working to utilise skillful means in helping sentient beings, in the developed as well as the developing world.
BODHI provides a framework for altruistic people worldwide who are not comfortable working in traditionl religious or secular organisations. No religious affiliation is necessary to work with BODHI. We ask only for a kind heart.
What makes us different?
Three things differentiate BODHI from other aid organisations:
1) our emphasis on the sustainability of all projects, which must be ecologically and environmentally considerate. People affected need to participate in defining the problems and their resolutions;
2) our Buddhist orientation (again we stress that no religious affiliation is necessary to work with BODHI); and
3) the fact that we are a uniquely structured international organisation. Autonomous organisations have been formed in the U.S., Australia and India, with donors worldwide.
Donations are fully tax-deductible in both the United States and Australia.
BODHI Australia is classified as a deductible gift recipient (DGR) as an overseas relief fund and as an income tax exempt charity (ITEC).
Australian tax-payers: Cheques to BODHI Australia Overseas Relief Fund are tax-deductible, as are any credit card donations. Cheques to BODHI Australia are welcome but not tax-deductible.
U.S. tax-payers: All donations are unaffected and remain taxdeductible in any form.
